La Reichsmarine fue el nombre que tomó la armada alemana durante la República de Weimar. Era la rama naval de las Reichswehr (Fuerzas armadas imperiales). Existió entre 1918 y 1935, cuando fue reemplazada durante el régimen nazi por la Kriegsmarine.

Al fin de la Primera Guerra Mundial y con la destrucción de la Kaiserliche Marine, se creó una fuerza naval con el nombre de Vorläufige Reichsmarine (Armada imperial provisoria).

Según el Tratado de Versailles, la armada alemana estaba limitada a 15.000 hombres, 6 acorazados, 6 cruceros y 12 destructores. El reemplazo de naves obsoletas no debía exceder las 10.000 toneladas. También se prohibía el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías. Sin embargo las restricciones no fueron muy estrictas, previendo que en el futuro, una marina alemana sólida en el mar Báltico, serviría de contraparte a la armada soviética.
