Otto Moritz Walther Model (Genthin, 24 de enero de 1891 – cerca de Ratingen, 21 de abril de 1945) fue un Mariscal de Campo (Generalfeldmarschall) alemán durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
editar BiografíaModel nació en Genthin, en lo que actualmente es Sajonia-Anhalt. Hijo de un músico, sirvió en la Batalla de Verdún en la Primera Guerra Mundial, donde fue condecorado con la Cruz de Hierro por su valor. Después de la guerra permaneció en el ejército y en 1942 fue ascendido a [[mayor general].
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Model sirvió en las campañas de Polonia y Francia. En el ataque contra la Unión Soviética (URSS), su división panzer formó parte de la punta de lanza en el ataque al ¨río Dniéper, llegando a ganarse la confianza de Adolf Hitler tanto por su valía en el campo de batalla como por sus fuertes convicciones nacionalsocialistas. Por ello, su carrera militar fue meteórica, pasando de mandar una división panzer (3ª Pz.D.) el 22 de junio de 1941, a un panzerkorps (41º Pz.K) en octubre del mismo año, a un ejército (IX Cuerpo de ejército) a principios de 1942 y a grupos de ejército desde 1943 y hasta el final de la guerra, llegando a ser mariscal de campo en 1944. Hitler lo consideraba su mejor general, por lo que lo utilizó frecuentemente destinándolo siempre a los sectores más comprometidos, tanto en el frente del Este como en el del Oeste.
Cuando su grupo de ejércitos B fue rodeado por los ejércitos anglo-norteamericanos en la llamada Bolsa del Ruhr, Model se suicidó de un disparo en la cabeza, el 21 de abril de 1945, en una zona boscosa entre Duisburg y el pueblo de Lintorf, que actualmente forma parte de Ratingen, habiendo dicho poco antes a sus oficiales que un Mariscal no debía rendirse jamás. Sin embargo, también se cree que lo hizo por temor a ser juzgado por crímenes de guerra.
Está enterrado en el Soldatenfriedhof Vossenack, un cementerio militar cercano a la ciudad de Vossenack.
